At JSMBS:
Your AMA chapter is involved in several important events on campus. We:

-
Co-host the annual CPM practice exam for first year students
-
Host lectures to keep up with current issues facing the medical community
-
Run policy workshops to introduce our members to the process of developing, writing, and submitting policy resolutions

In the Community:
We work with a local school to run our annual Doctors Back to School event. The AMA states that "The AMA Doctors Back to School™ program aims to increase the number of minority physicians and work toward eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities. The program sends minority physicians and minority medical students into the community as a way to introduce children to professional role models and show kids of all ages from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups that a career in medicine is attainable for everyone."

We make this a fun day for the students by offering a physician panel discussion, followed by interactive stations to introduce aspect of the physical exam, anatomy, and other clinical skills.
The AMA at Large:
Your AMA chapter sends representatives to State and National-level AMA meetings and conferences. Here, JSMBS students are able to advocate for their policy initiatives, pursue leadership positions in the AMA or AMA-MSSNY, network with other AMA members, present research, and gain other valuable experiences. See the testimonials of some of our AMA members below.

"Submitting our very first resolution ever and seeing it go through all the way to the end was amazing. Although it didn’t get passed, we learned from our mistakes and we will carry on."
